THE LOVERS
At Kendall Beach
lovers - corpses washed ashore -
lie on the sand, feet
threatened by the morning tide.
Dawn glares over the waves.
Sun pricks tiny gleams
from the sand. Gulls fly high
in shrill games.
Since their last drowning,
the lovers have lain
motionless. Now sun-warmed
they open blind eyes and print
the public air with the signature
of their love.
