BIG NUISANCE
Old Truth stretched his shaggy body
on the floor beside my feet.
Every time I moved, I had to step over him
had to dodge his wagging tail
and counter scrutiny
from his half-opened eyes.
Tired of circumventing him,
I booted him into the outer hall,
into the cold.
Then I sat by the fire
enjoying my new freedom.
But presently, shafted by his whimpers,
I strode outside, petted him,
and coaxed him to return.
He came in reluctantly -
Later I was sorry I had given in -
Truth is such a nuisance
around the house.
