Lychnis x arkwrightii 'Vesuvius'

Several plants together.

This plant catches your attention for two reasons:  1) The bright orange-red blooms really standout;  2) the foliage is a mix of purple and green - especially so on younger plants.

Blooms are a good size, and appear in late spring to early summer.

This plant readily self-seeds, which is another bonus - you can have many of them in a few years.

We grow them in full sun and partial shade.  I think they look especially nice in a partial shade, the bright orange really stands out.

Hardy to zone 3.

Height 30 to 50 cm.  Can spread into a patch 75 cm feet wide in a couple of years. Self-seeder, gives us lots of new plants each year.

Glen's score:  7.
