Interesting little foliage plant. Ideal location is a
sunny, moist site - is a waterside plant in its native habitat.
Flowers are insignificant, we grow this plant for its foliage.
For best foliage colour (the reds), you need to plant in a fairly
sunny site.
This fellow is very invasive, if left alone will spread all over. Planting it in a pot in the ground will contain it nicely, but in my zone 3 garden containing it in a pot causes the plant to lose vigor, and eventually disappear. I have therefore pretty much given up trying to grow it in my garden.
Is one of the last perennials to emerge each spring in our garden, very late.
If uncrowded by taller plants, grows about 6 inches tall. Will stretch to 12 inches or more in height if it has to compete with taller, nearby plants.
Hardy to Zone 4/5.
