This cousin of Joe Pye Weed (Eupatorium maculatum), has attractive, dark, glossy foliage. New leaves and undersides of leaves are purple-coloured.

Hardy zone 4.

1998:  first year we've grown this. Has grown to a height of about 30"; we have it in partial shade.

Spring 1999 update:  dead, didn't like our winters... can't imagine why.  Trying again in a more sheltered spot.

Spring 2000 update:  dead again. I don't think I'll be trying this plant again, it doesn't like our cold winters.
