Solitary, white globular flowers on the end of each flower stem appear in mid-summer. Foliage is dark green, and is thistle-like. Bees love this plant.
In good soil, this plants grow to be quite large, require lots of room in a perennial border.
Easy from seed, bloomed for us in its 2nd year from seed.
I was very disappointed in this variety of Globe Thistle. For a few years it has been a featured plant in Jellito's seed catalogue. Their catalogue picture shows white flower heads with red flower stems, quite a striking combination. Our plants grew the white flower heads, but the flower stems had little red-colouring, and as a result, this plant wasn't anything special. I prefer the traditional Globe Flowers with metallic-blue flower heads to this variety.
