Blooms in late July, August. Foliage resembles Iris.  We grow them in full sun.

'Lucifer' - red blooms (tall blooms in bottom-left photo), 36" tall.
'Severen Sunrise' - orange-red blooms (shorter blooms in bottom-left photo), 24" tall

Hardy to Zone 5. Recommended procedure to overwinter is to lift the corms and store inside.

There are also yellow blooming varieties.
