Huge cloud of small white flowers appears in late June. Very large dark green leaves, resembling Rhubarb. Been described as 'Baby's Breath on steroids'.
We have a couple of them, each growing in full sun. Takes several years to flower, have to be patient.
Have to be very careful around their flower spikes. Brushing against it with your shoulder will snap large stems off. The wind however doesn't seem to damage them, which is good because it's very windy here.
Maureen and I disagree over this plant. I think it's magnificent, Mo thinks it's a big ugly mess that crowds out other plants. After growing them for several years, we decided they're just to big for our garden. Another problem we had with them is a tiny worm devours the leaves every summer, leaving them quite unsightly. I've been told it's a worm that feeds on Canola, a crop commonly grown here by our farmers. Whatever the worms were, we couldn't get rid of them, and we pretty much had to cut off all the leaves in mid-summer.
Foliage grows to about 24", flower spike to 5 feet. Spread
of 4 feet.
Hardy zone 4.
Glen's score: 6.
