Campanula punctata

Large, white, bell-shaped blooms which hang straight down from the plant's stems. Blooms are coloured with pink spots on the inside.  Blooming begins early to mid-June for us, blooms for several weeks.  There are named varieties of this plant now available which have darker, more pinkish blooms - a little nicer looking with the darker blooms, I think.

Very vigourous, aggressive plant. Spreads by underground stolons, and is a heavy self-seeder. Unless you want it all over the place, don't let it go to seed (you've been warned).  We also grow this in pots sunk into the ground to contain its underground roots from spreading.

Usually rated hardy zone 4 or 5. Native to Northern China. We've found this to be a rugged, tough plant.

Seems to grow best for us in partial shade.

Height / Spread:   12 inches to 30 inches / everywhere if you're not careful.

Glen's score:  6.
