15 cm ruler for scale

Erect growth habit, usually single stemmed. Stems purple-red in colour. Flowers irregular, pinkish-purple, spotted, in clusters in upper leaf axils. Flower measured at 1 cm long. Leaves opposite, lanceolate, sessile, leaf measured at 7 cm long and 1.5 cm wide. Stems hirsute, top of leaves with short hairs, leaf margins ciliate, bottom of leaves with hairs along nerves. Stems square.

Habitat is marshes, stream banks, moist meadows, wet open woods. Common.

Height listed in Budd's Flora to 80 cm, we measured plants to 47 cm tall.
