Leafy perennial with a reddish stem, upper leaves stalkless, pinnate, 8 cm long 3.5 cm wide. Lower leaves lobed and having petioles. Flowers: many, in large umbels. Flowers to 2.5 cm across, listed as black-tipped (Budd's Flora) and sometimes black-tipped (Plants of the Boreal Forest & Aspen Parkland).

Plants in photograph were 50 cm tall, height is listed in the reference books to 100 cm.

Habitat is listed as damp thickets and moist, open woodlands, boreal forest.

Photos taken August 20th in a forest open spot, and on the edge of a beaver pond, moist spruce woods Duck Mountain Provincial Park, about 300 km northeast of our home in Regina, SK.
