15 cm ruler for scale

Stout stemmed, coarsely hairy plant, single stemmed. Deep yellow petals with a central brown disk, flower heads to 7 cm in diameter. Leaves oblanceolate, lower leaves with winged petioles, basal leaf in above photo was 14.5 cm long and 2.5 cm wide.

The reference books give differing opinions if this plant is native or introduced. The Flora of Canada, lists as native to Eastern USA and introduced to Canada, The Flora of Alberta lists as introduced. Listed as native by Budd's Flora, and Checklist of the Vascular Plants of Saskatchewan.

Height listed in Budd's Flora from 30 to 60 cm. I measured plants to 40 cm tall on the day I took these photographs.

The above photo was taken July 1st, in open Aspen woods, 70 km southeast of our home in Regina, SK.
