Rubus chamaemorus - photos and description

Saskatchewan's Wildflowers

Small, erect bog plant, with a single, terminal white flower. We measured flowers to 23 mm across. Round leaves with 5 lobes, long stalked, serrate, margins and bottoms hairy. Leaves 3.75 cm wide, 3.5 cm long.

Plant in photo was 18 cm tall, usually shorter - about 10 cm.

Found in sphagnum peat bogs in the boreal forest. Common.

I don't find the berries particularly tasty, am told they make fine jams and jellies.

Photos of plant in flower taken in a bog in the Porcupine Hills about 400 km NE of our home in Regina, SK. The photos of the plant in fruit were taken July 22nd in Prince Albert National Park, Saskatchewan, about 500 km north of our home in Regina, SK.
