Rosa arkansana - photos and description

Saskatchewan's Wildflowers

A low growing shrub with very prickly stems. Bristles not broad or flattened at their base. Flowers white to pink, sometimes with pink stripes, measured to 5 cm diameter; very fragrant. Leaves pinnate, leaflets 7 to 11, leaflets obovate. We measured a leaflet at 25 mm long and 14 mm wide. A few very short hairs on leaf tops, leaf bottoms puberelent, margins ciliate.

Habitat is hillsides and prairie. Common.

Height listed in Budd's Flora to 30 cm, we measured plants to 20 cm tall. 

Photos were taken in June 26th, prairie roadside, about 100 km south west of our home in Regina, SK.
