Ranunculus gmelinii - photos and description

Saskatchewan's Wildflowers

Looking straight down on plants

Long stalks running along the ground, taking root along the way

Described as semi-aquatic, can be found floating in water, or growing in mud flats. Leaves are alternate, reniform to orbicular, deeply lobed. Leaf highighted above was 17 mm wide. Some petioles with a few hairs, otherwise the plants appeared glabrous to us. Flowers are bright yellow, measured to 1.5 cm in diameter.

Stems will root at the nodes.

Height of flowering stems measured to 14 cm. Common, we've found this in several locations around the province.

Took the above photos in June 21st, sluggish steam among beaver swamps, Cypress Hills, 450 km south west of Regina, and dried prairie stream bed about 70 km south east of our home in Regina, SK.
