Pterospora andromedea - photos and description

Saskatchewan's Wildflowers

 

Red coloured saprophyte of pine forest. Stems very sticky with glandular hairs. Flowers bell-shaped, 5 mm long, growing in a long raceme, cream coloured. Note the complete lack of chlorophyll.

Height listed in Budd's Flora from 15 - 90 cm.

Very rare, listed as an S1 by the Saskatchewan Conservation Data Centre.

Took the above photos July 11th and July 24th, in lodgepole pine forest in Cypress Hills Provincial Park in SW Saskatchewan, 450 km southwest of our home in Regina, SK.
