Plant just beginning to flower

Woodland plant with an arching growth habit. Flowers small, white in panicles, flowers measured to 4 mm diameter and 3 mm long. Stem leaves are alternate light green, elliptical to ovate, clasp the stem, leaf highlighted in above photo was 13 cm long and 4.5 cm wide. Stems with short, white hairs running lines downd the stem. Top of leaves glabrous, bottom of leaf with very short hairs. Straw coloured basal leaves sheath the stem. Flowering begins early June.

Habitat is moist woods.

Rare, listed as an S1S2 by the Saskatchewan Conservation Data Centre.

Height listed in Budd's Flora from 30 to 90 cm. We measured plants to 55 cm tall.

The above photos were taken June 4th and June 29th, mixed woods, Cypress Hills about 450 km southwest of our home in Regina, SK.
