Lithospermum canescens - photos and description

Saskatchewan's Wildflowers

15 cm ruler for scale

Erect plant often with many stems growing from the crown. Leaves are alternate, oblanceolate, without petioles. Leaf highlighted in photo was 4.5 cm long, and 12 mm wide. Stems and both sides of leaves are hairy, giving the foliage a light green colouring. Flowers are orange-yellow, funnelform, in clusters at stem tips, 15 mm long and 15 mm diameter. Fragrant.

Native to moist meadows and edges of woods. Fairly common.

Took the photos June 5th, in a clearing in sandy jack pine forest, Hudson Bay, SK, 400 km northeast of our home in Regina, SK.
