Clematis occidentalis

     

Climbing or low growing vine, with showy purple flowers in early to mid-June. Leaves divided into 3 leaflets. We've seen them growing along the ground, and climbing up into shrubs and trees.

Habitat is wooded areas in the Cypress Hills.

Height to 2 metres

Rare, listed as an S2 by the Saskatchewan Conservation Data Centre.

The above photos were taken June 11th in the Cypress Hills, about 400 km southwest of our home in Regina, SK.
