Astragalus spatulatus

Low growing plant with a cushion like growth habit. Flowers are pinkish purple, 1 cm long, flowering scapes of plants in above photos were only 5 cm tall. Leaves are all basal, simple, linear. Leaves 2.5 cm long and 3 mm wide. Foliage is grey in colour, leaves are silvery grey pubescent on both sides.

Not common, listed as an S2S3 by the Saskatchewan Conservation Data Centre (2004). I would add locally abundant, the sites where I have seen them I have found them in large numbers.

Early bloomer, most of these plants had just finished flowering on May 21st.

Photos taken May 21st on rocky hillsides of the Frenchman River Valley, west block of the Grasslands National Park, about 400 km SW of our home in Regina, SK.
