Orobanche uniflora - photos and description

Saskatchewan's Wildflowers



Slender parasitic plant, pedicels 1 to 5 bearing a single flower light violet to white in colour, flowers measured to 1.5 cm long and 7 mm diameter. Stems glandular pubescent. Small, scale-like leaves at bottom of stem.

Height is listed in Budd's Flora from 6 to 20 cm. The tallest scape we measured was 6 cm tall.

There are 3 species of Orobanche native to Saskatchewan. This species is identified by its stems bearing a single flower.

Habitat is moist woods and wooded slopes. Very rare, listed as an S1 by the Saskatchewan Conservation Data Centre.

The above photos were taken May 20th, wooded slope, Cypress Hills, 450 km southwest of our home in Regina, SK.
