15 cm ruler for scale



Annual weed with square stems, stems covered in bristly hairs. Leaves all cauline, ovate, opposite, and coarsely toothed. The blade of the leaf highlighted in photo above was measured at 6 cm long and 33 mm wide. Flowers in dense clusters in leaf axils, stalkless, pink in colour; I measured a flower at 1 cm long.

Introduced from Europe.

Habitat is distured soil, swamps, marshes, across the southern half of Saskatchewan.

Height listed in Budd's Flora to 100 cm, I measured plants 36 cm tall.

Photos taken July 10th, stream bank, Duck Mountain Provincial Park, 300 km northeast of our home in Regina, SK.
