Erect, branched growth habit with small lilac flowers in loose racemes. Spiny calyx, flower two-lipped, small < 10 mm in length. Basal leaves ovate and toothed, upper stem leaves oblanceoate.
Flora of Alberta lists the plant as an occasional weed found in waste places and roadsides. We found it growing in very sandy soil, in a highway ditch.
Height of flowering stem on plants we observed were 10 cm to 30 cm, the reference books list height up to 50 cm.
Took the photos on June 19th in a sandy highway ditch near Turtleford about 450 km northwest of our home in Regina, SK
