Draba nemorosa - photos and description

Saskatchewan's Wildflowers

Small erect annual with a single stem or branching stem from a rosette of leaves, stem also having a few leaves. Basal leaves obovate 1 cm long, 6 mm wide with a few teeth. Stem and leaves are hairy. Small yellow flowers yellow in a raceme, flowers 2 mm long. Pods are well spaced along the stem, and have a flattened profile.

The key in Budd' Flora lists the pedicels 1.5-4 times as long as the pod; we measured the pods 0.5 cm long and the pedicels 1.5 cm long.

Habitat is listed as moist to dry open ground in the Flora of Alberta. Early blooming.

Photos taken May 7th in a grassy glade, in the Cypress Hills, 400 km southwest of our home in Regina, SK.
