Collomia linearis - photos and description

Saskatchewan's Wildflowers

Upright annual, with small pink flowers appearing atop the plant in a dense cluster beginning in June. Flowers funnelform, we measured them to 5 mm diameter. Leaves are alternate, linear-lanceolate, and increase in size up the plant. Stems, leaf bottom, top, and margins pubescent with very short hairs.

Common, found on dry and sandy soil, roadsides and field margins. Has shown up in our garden after we've brought in topsoil or manure.

Height listed in Budd's Flora form 10 to 40 cm, we measured plants to 35 cm tall.

The above photos were taken June 21st, stoney prairie, Cypress Hills, about 450 km south west of our home in Regina, SK. o
