


Biennial thistle with a stout flowering stem. Very prickly.
Leaves are indeed wavy in appearance (described as coplanar in
John Hudson's Taxonomic Reminder for Recognizing Saskatchewan
Plants), and woolly on both sides. Flowers are pinkish-purple,
quite showy.
Fairly common on dry prairie.
Grows to 100 cm in height, spread 60 cm.
These photos were taken in early July in a prairie pasture in the Bear Hills, 350 km, northwest of our home in Regina, SK.
