Flowers just beginning to open; 15 cm ruler for scale

Erect woodland plant, branching towards top of plant. Flowers very showy, red sepals with spurs, pale yellow petals, golden stamens protruding beneath the corolla. Flowers to 5 cm in length. Leaves divided into 3 leaflets, which in turn are divided into 2 or 3 lobes.

Habitat is moist woodlands in the Boreal Forest.

Height is listed in Budd's Flora to 80 cm, we measured plants to100 cm tall.

Photographed on June 20th in the Porcupine Hills, about 450 km northeast of our home in Regina, SK.
