15 cm ruler for scale

Erect plant with branching growth habit, red stems. Flowers bell-shaped, in clusters at end of stems in in leaf axils, white with pink stripes, we measured flowers to at 1 cm long. Leaves are all cauline, hang downwards, are opposite, oval, leaf highlighted above was 6.5 cm long and 3.5 cm wide. Stems and top of leaves are glabrous. Bottoms of leaves aare pubescent with short hairs. Stems and leaves when broken exude a milky, white sap.

Found in wooded areas and moist coulees.

Height listed in Budd's Flora to 150 cm, plant shown above was 52 cm tall. Common.
