



Erect plant with square stems and opposite, ovate leaves. Leaves are serrate, reduced upwards on stem, lower leaf blade measured at 6 cm long and 4 cm wide. Leaf undersides much paler than top side. Flowers light purple in a dense spike, spike measured at 3.5 cm long. with bluish-purple flowers appearing in early July in dense spikes. Stems glabrous, a few hairs on undersides of leaves.
Habitat is the edges of woods and thickets. Common.
Height is listed in Budd's Flora to 80 cm, we measured plants to 69 cm tall.
