Dark purple foliage and purple seed plumes are a very interesting combination. A large clump swaying in the breeze can be quite an eye-catcher.
Top left photo was from our garden in 1998, and top right from our garden in 1999 planted in a bed with Zinnia angustifolia 'Crystal White'. 1999 was a cool, wet summer for us - this grass just didn't grow much for us this year. Really needs lots of sun and hot weather to looks its best. Also doesn't like to get too dry.
Bottom photo was taken in a park in our city, Regina, SK. A plant that size would cost a fortune to buy.
Native to Africa. Hardy to only about -3C.
Seed is sterile, propagation is by division.
