Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens

Grass tips take on a orange-red colour in mid to late summer.

Grows to 20" in height for us. We grow it in partial shade.

Hardy to zone 4.

Disappointed in this, no where near the 'Flame' colouring I was expecting.  I have it in partial shade, however, might have better colour in full sun.

Is not aggressive as some other species of Miscanthus, actually quite well-behaved. Can't comment on the seed heads, haven't noticed them, but according to one reference has 'spikes of red flowers in August'.

Glen's score:  4.
